The Ramana Shrine and Meditation Hall
is the fulcrum of the Ramana Maharshi Centre, the
physical focus of connecting with Bhagavan and the
devotees, here at Bangalore. There can never be any
doubt that Ramana’s presence is available everywhere at
all times. At the same time, so long as one is bonded to
one’s body, one often needs a physical anchor to keep
one’s ship from drifting meaninglessly on the inward
path and from floundering in the many storms that life
whips up.
It is for this reason that the
Supreme Truth has been embodied as Sadguru Ramana, for
this reason that he allowed himself to be photographed
in hundreds of aspects and for this reason that he has
made his presence palpable in places where devotees
congregate to dwell on his life and teachings. Evidently
this current of grace flows here in full measure at the
Ramana Shrine and Meditation Hall in Bangalore. Many
have entered its portals and found themselves enveloped
by the love and peace. They often wonder why it was so
long before they came and it is not unusual to ponder
that one comes only when Ramana calls.

“Some come to meditate, others to
pray and some simply to drink in the peace and joy. All
see it as a spiritual oasis in the very midst of the
hectic 'madding crowd'. They wonder whether the location
that Sri Ramana Maharshi has chosen typifies his
teaching of combining work and wisdom. Does it signify
keeping the hands busy in work while the 'head is cool
in solitude', functioning from the silence of the
heart?”
Driving down from the Begaluru
International Airport on Bellary Road, soon after one
drives past the underpass of Mekhri Circle, the Shrine
stands to the right on a stretch of road now called the
‘Ramana Maharshi Road’. To reach it from this side of
Bangalore one has to go straight through to the Cauvery
Circle, take a U- turn and drive back, taking a left at
the 10th Main of Raj Mahal Vilas Extension just before
the Shrine to enter the gate. If one comes from the
South of Bangalore, one drives past Windsor Manor, right
past Cauvery Circle and just before going down into the
underpass in Mekhri Circle, branches into the left in
the 10th Main of RMV Extension. The Shrine is opposite
the Palace Grounds on its Western side, called the
‘Tripura Vasini’ entrance.
